On Choosing a Teacher

As it can be quite difficult to find Feri-lineage teachers, it may be tempting to accept the first one who actually becomes available. However, studying Feri is normally a long-term undertaking and the relationship with one's teacher can become quite profound. Choosing a Feri teacher should therefore be approached with the same seriousness and care given to your other intimate, long-term relationships.

Teachers vary widely in approach, technique and personality. In addition, there are many lineages or branches of Feri--some with significant differences in practice and lore. What suits one person perfectly may be entirely wrong for the next. It's important to pay close attention to your own intuition when considering a prospective teacher and lineage. If it feels wrong--it probably is!

One handy evaluation tool when considering any group or teacher is Isaac Bonewits's famed Cult Danger Evaluation Frame. Although designed for groups, it can also be useful in evaluating individuals. Click HERE to view the frame.
